Duplication VS Replication

There are two processes for manufacturing CDs and DVDs: duplication and replication. New technology makes both processes very reliable and cost effective depending on the quantity of discs you are ordering.

Duplication

If you’re ordering fewer than 500 DVDs or CDs from the same master, your project will be duplicated. Master Track will burn the contents of your master onto blank CD-Rs or DVD-Rs. (The R stands for recordable). Duplication is faster for small quantities and you avoid the set-up charges required for replication.

At one time, CD-Rs and DVD-Rs were dismissed as lesser media because they wouldn’t play in every drive or player. Today’s recordable discs are much more improved and most players made in the past few years are compatible with recordable discs. At Master Track, we use high quality Taiyo Yuden CD-R blanks. You should notice little or no difference the quality of a duplicated or replicated disc.

Replication

The replication process involves making a glass master from your CD master or fully authored DVD. This glass master is used to make a set of stampers that will serve as molds for you replicated CDs or DVDs. After the discs are molded are coated with protective lacquer.  

Replication is ideal for large quantities of discs. We recommend replication for runs of 500 or more CDs or DVDs
